New Ribbon Update

Flower Power:
This may have come out before today but there is a new ribbon to try and achieve. It's called Flower Power (hence the title) and, well, you harvest/plant flowers. If you need to know any more information on it; it's pretty self explanitory. Feel free to ask me on Facebook.

For information on profits of the flowers check out the post 2 before this one.

A Closer Look at Fertilizing

Crop Whisperer:
Fertilizing is just like any other harvesting, plowing, and etc. When you get the option of helping out neighbors, you can also fertilize their farm. There should be a pop up for helping them and then, once you close out of that, you can fertilize 5 plots of their crops. But! You can only fertilize crops in the process of a growing; meaning no dead rops or fully developed crops, and certainly not just plowed land.

But how? Well, if you look at a neighbor's farm after you have closed out of the pop up for helping them out, and they meet the criteria of fertilization abilities, then there should be an icon at the bottom left of the page within the FarmVille game. Simple enough?

There are no limitations on how many crops you can fertilize in one day. You cannot fertilize your own crops. You cannot fertilize the same neighbor's farm twice in one day. You can only do 5 or less of a neighbor's farm.

When you fertilize, it will have the same process of planting crops with the whole process bar telling you the percentage of how much it is finished. After you have fertilized a plot, they become all sparkly.

But wait! What does fertilizing do besides make it sparkly? Well, little kid, it makes them grow, atleast, twice as big and it rewards the neighbor extra experience points when harvested.

If you're visual check this out:
This guide is a little poor quality but you will get the idea and knowledge. Other youtube videos that had better image quiality failed to explain the entire process. Enjoy.

Update 2.0 on 10-23-09

FarmVille Fertilizer:

Now everyone (not just randomly selected users) can get their gritty, dirty, seedy hands on special fertilizer! You can fertilize 5 plots per person, but not your own. However, you can NOT fertilize dead crops nor fully grown crops. When you fertilize a neighbor's farm you can also help them out for clearing things and whatnot. So what that means, is that you can go towards getting the Crop Whisperer Ribbon AND the Good Samaritan Ribbon. Isn't that neat?

This is the symbol you should see at
the bottom left-hand corner of viewing
a neighbor's farm.
Ghost Chili:
Now (for a limited time, I'm asusming) you can grow Ghost Chili! You make 41 profit within 6 hours. What better way to grow new crops than with neighbors making them BIG?

Turtles? Where?:
How could we forget the adorable new turtles wandering about? Just like any lost ow, sheep, or duckling, you can adopt a turtle!

Update 10-23-09

Cows and machines:

This morning we were able to buy a dairy farm. They hold 20 cows at a time and allow you to harvest 20 at a time. You can buy one with 20 cash or, even better, 10,000 coins. They are available in the market. (See Figure 1 and Figure 2.)

Figure 1
Figure 2
More Decorations Too:
Aswell as dairy farms there's a scaredycrow for 22 cash and some spooky bats for 7,800 coins (Figure 3). When you purchase any one of these, you will have the option to post them in your friend's newsfeed.
When you buy the Spooky Bats, however, the tiny bats hover and fly around the gravestone just like the haunted house.
Speaking of gravstones, did you know that you can now send them as gifts? (Figure 4).
Figure 3

More Seeds?:
Yes! Finally! We can plant flowers (besides sunflowers) such as red tulips (which take only one day; just like the sunflowers while the others take 2 days to harvest. Maybe even more.) daffodils, pink roses, lilies that are white, and pretty lavendar. Why don't we all stop to plant and smell the roses? (See Figure 5.)
Here's the Harvesting Info:
Look at what's highlighted in red. That's the most important out of all of this jibber jabber.
Daffodils: You can plant them any time of the day and not worry about getting there at an exact hour beause you an wait as long as 4 days! They make a profit of 30 coins per day. (135-(60+15)=60/2 -> 30 coins per day)
Red Tulips: A better profit than daffodils. (159-(75+15)= 69 coins in one day.)
Pink Roses: (254-(120+15)=119/2 -> 59.5 coins per day.)
Sunflowers: Check previous post on harvesting.
Lavendar: (384-(160+15)=209/2 -> 104.5 coins per day.)
Lilies: (369-(195+15)=159 per day.)

New Hay Bales

Giftables
Today, October 21st, we are able to gift jet black hay bales, violet haybales, and orange haybales. They look awfully similar to Halloween colors, no? Hmm...

Circled in red are the new hay bales to gift.

Mystery Boxes

What could it be?
As of this morning, fellow farmers could get their hands on a new item, known as the Mystery Box. Clearly, it is unknown what you get out of it but I got a hold of two videos from youtube that demonstrates two different users receiving two different items; a golden garden gnome and a cool lounge chair.
Each box costs 15 cash. Some say that it is not worth it yet others beg to differ. What will your opinion be?

When opened they go into a pretty blue magical puff of smoke and whabam! Your item will be able to declare itself upon your Facebook friend's news feed. (Again, shown in the videos below)

I would have had more infortmation on it and more pictures only I think Matthew opened mine up without my knowledge when he harvested my crops for me. Little tworp. (Is that how you spell it?)

Crop Whisperer

The New Crop Whisperer Ribbon:
I haven't even gotten to a post on just ribbons in general but since so many of you have been wondering about the Crop Whisperer I'll get to this first. Below is a snapshot of what you should see on the last page of the ribbons pop up. (You can access the ribbon getting process by clicking on the button that has a symbol of a ribbon on it on the bottom right corner when you are at your farm or a neighbor's.)

Nobody is completely sure yet but what has been heard of it is that only randomly selected farmers get the ability to fertilize their neighbor's crops. Bummer, right? In order to achieve the first yellow ribbon you need to fertilize 100 things! Insane. But! It's pretty clear from the picture below that whoever gets these special powers are able to ATLEAST fertilize 5 plots at a time. No. It's a fact, actually.

What does it even do when a neighbor fertilizes? Well, as you can see beneathe this pharagraph it makes them bigger, better, and heck, EXTREMELY sparkly! Right next to the 5 fertilized peppers in the image is a boring, regular, non fertilized plot. See the difference?

But wait! You're still probably wondering, how do I get randomly selected? Obviously it's random, but it's just like helping neighbors with pulling weeds, chasing racoons and other shinanigans. If you're able to fertilize, at the bottom left; where your fuel status is, there will be a blue and white coin. You will be given only 5 bags of fertilizer.
Another thing, you cannot fertilize your own crops. That's just plain selfish and undoable anyways. Each awesome bag of fertilizer will give you one availale plot to fertilize. So in otherwords, you can't fertilize 5 plots with one bag. It doesn't work that way.

Trick or Treat!

Halloween Scare:
Just because your student handbook to FarmVille is still in progress with the basics and guides does not mean we won't be up to date on the newest and greatest events such as Halloween! That's right. If you log on today you should get this pop up:

Figure 1

As of 10-16-09 you have 17 days to get your items. Get yours soon before you can't anymore!
Below (Figure 2) is a screenshot of the marketplace and all of the available limited time offers. The pumpkins light up! :o

Figure 2

If you purchase certain items such as the Cat O' Lantern or Jack-O'-Lantern you will receive the option to publish your post. The Tombstone let's you publish aswell. The fence does not. (That is all that is known at the moment.) See beneathe Figure 3.

Figure 3

Along with Halloween items up for buying you're also able to give White Jack-O'-Lanterns! This will end in 17 days aswell. (Figure 4)

3D Hay Stacking

I don't know how many questions I have gotten about my farm asking how to do the 3D effect but let's just leave off with it being a TON.
It is very simple to do. I was able to figure it out on my own, but maybe for some it's a lot more complicated than trying to duplicate something.
Since I'm a bit on the lazy side and I don't feel like typing everything out, I'll share with you a video that I think would help you better than me typing jibber jabber.

If you like a little more definition on the how to here's a different video link:

Crop Mastery

Stars! Stars! Stars!
Q: What are those silly little stars under my seeds in the marketplace? What the heck is a crop mastery?!

A: Crop mastery is a new little system within FarmVille that rewards you for harvesting different crops. If you earn stars you get coins and XP. There are 3 available stars to earn:

The first star gives you 500 coins and 25 XP.

The 2nd gives you 1,500 coins and 75 XP

The last, but not least, star awards you with a special sign of the crop you have mastered basically informing everyone else that you're a crop allstar. Owning the sign gives you MONSTER crops. (See below.) You also earn 5,000 coins and 125 XP.

Mastery crop sign of grapes image taken from my farm.

Circled in red shows the monster crops. Image provided by Trevor; taken by him, from his farm.
After mastering a crop completely with all 3 stars, you are given extra XP after you harvest them (if you plant then after you have mastered them.)
Each crop has a different number of harvesting that you need in order to up your mastery. If you scroll over the bar beneathe the seed it will give you a number out of _____.

Basics of Harvesting Crops

We're students, right? That means we have studying for quizzes to get to, homework to finish, sports, everything, and anything! Here's a calculation of different crops, how much they cost (plowing and for the actual seeds themselves), experience points gained, suggested planting times (based on when a THS student is at home), and ofcourse, the profits.

name of seed/ time it takes / profit (amount you earn for selling it minus the plowing and the cost of the seed; per plot/ per day) / XP gained (not with crop mastery) / (suggested) planting time(s) / profit (per plot/ per day based on the suggestedplanting times)

PD=per day
PEP=per each planting
For anything that says something absurd like, "Blah blah blah!" means you can plant that seed any time of the day because it takes a day or more to harvest. I was lazy to type the same boring, "plant anytime you want" over and over again.

Feel free to click on the image to enlarge it to its maximum size and clarity. I realize this image makes it blurry. (It should let you; if not then it's being a poop.)
*Certain seeds may not be available to you due to the level you are at.
Personally, I believe that grapes are the best buy since it's not under a strict time schedule. Sunflowers are 2nd up though. Anything below those 2 I'd have to say that rice is a fair bet.

Special thanks to Trevor for providing information on higher crop levels. Currently, as of 10-15-09, he is at a high level of 30.

Introduction

Hey everyone!

Finally there is a FarmVille guide dedicated solely to students. As we all know, not everyone has tens and thousands of hours a week to play FarmVille. This is entirely okay because nobody expects you to.
With this guide created by me, Monique, and maybe a little help from other familiar students, your farming days will be much easier and you should have a better understanding with all of the categories within the addicting Facebook game.
From animals to buildings, and vehicles to decorations, many of us have a little difficulty figuring out what the heck we're doing still. Even harvesting can be a hastle! Luckily for you, this picture filled and answer packed blog will go over many of these topics, if not; all.

Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Monique S.

P.S. I do have a life. I just have a lot of time on my hands after I have finished my homework. :)
